ELAINE PAIGE AND FRIENDS
What fun making this album was. It took a full 3 months of recording in NYC at Avatar Studios (originally the renowned Power Station). I had such a great band – some of the best New York musicians – including Shawn Pelton, Dave Spinozza, Rob Mounsey & Dave Finck and of course the late legendary Phil Ramone producing and keeping us all in check! What an absolute delight and a lifetime wish come true as I had been wanting to work with Phil since I first heard Paul Simon’s ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’ album in 1975 … yes patience is a virtue!!
It was such a thrill to be working with so many legendary singers many of whom I had grown up listening to such as Barry Manilow, Dionne Warwick, Neil Sedaka, Johnny Mathis to name but a few and now here I was recording with them. The ‘fan’ in me came out big time! New York wasn’t the only place we laid down tracks. I also went to LA and recorded at Capitol Records, another iconic recording studio where Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, The Beatles and Barbra Streisand – all the major stars have recorded there. I recorded with both Paul Anka and LeAnn Rimes, in those hallowed studios.
Back in NYC, I had several meetings regarding the photo shoot for the album… The usual decisions had to be made. Then a weekend was nominated and we arrived at an amazing downtown large loft apartment overlooking the East River. After a long arduous day the shots were in the can and we knew we had our album cover.
Note: ‘Elaine Paige and Friends’ attained a Gold certification by the BPI (The British Recorded Music Industry) for sales in the UK – this award marks sales of 100,000 units of an individual album title to UK retailers.
