Seb,
Thank you so much for the wonderful review of Elaine's concert in London.  It was the next best thing to being
there.  I would love to see your pictures too but I don't
have facebook.  I am thinking about trying twitter...but
I am not very good on the computer.  Again thank you for sharing your evening with us.  Mardell

Seb - I also want to thank you for your review of Elaine's show.  You are quite a storyteller.  Also, thank you for reminding me of Gracie Fields.  I do remember her from way
back during the war (late 1940's) especially singing "Now is the Hour".  She did so much for the all the troops.
Thanks again

Wow Seb, if I were not sitting next to you I'd think you had been taking notes all through the concert!!  Grin

Thanks for a great and detailed review. Smiley

I actually enjoyed Hermione's song, though maybe it was slightly better in Ipswich. Granted she's no Elaine Paige (who is??) and her voice is perhaps better suited to a small venue and not a huge concert hall, but she had a certain fragility and emotion to her voice that really touched me. Smiley

As for the sexy-man he sounded more in awe of Evita than hateful, but that might have something to do with Mi Morena.... Wink I recall Elaine saying that there was always a distance between her and David Essex even off stage, they never got very close. I guess it would be difficult to play someone's lover one minute and hateful opponent the next.

I really enjoyed the Evita opening, it made it much more interesting than just EP coming on and singing Argentina. And they did the same with Sunset which I also enjoyed. I wish that she'd taken the opportunity to do The Perfect Year though!! Smiley

All her classics were of course stunning. Smiley As If We Never said Goodbye, With One Look and If You Love especially stood out. But if I could have had just one song recorded from this tour it would have been The Closest Thing To Crazy. It was way better than on the cd, she sang it with much more emotion and power.

It's Only Life was also great, but I thought the same thing as you Seb, HH should perhaps not have chosen the tallest platforms she had.

In Ipswich she had lower heels on and it looked better. Smiley I don't think she's particularly tall, just EP being so tiny. But it looked a bit mismatched when they were singing to eachother, esp as their performance gave the impression of mother/daughter (I felt it did anyway).

Elaine's shoes were very cool (as always!!) as Seb said, transparent sides and heel/toe in sparkly silver.

All in all it was a fantastic concert, even though I was so tired I could hardly stand.

In case anyone is interested, this is the suit Elaine wore when she sang As If...

The buttons had been changed to huge crystal/swarovski ones and it had got white fur cuffs. Smiley

Yep, that's definitely the same skirt!

That's the sort of style of the outfit. But the one in the concert had three huge buttons, not two. I think (howeer distant the memory is!) she had a white blouse underneath it?

The hat was different too -same style, different hat.

Interesting that the hat she tweeted a pic of didn't make an appearance!

I wondered about that too, when they sang together on that tv show it seemed like it was definitely happening.  Huh But I guess he couldn't make it in the end afterall.

I'm not sure either. I thought when she mentioned him on stage he was going to walk on -as he was the only one on the album (other than Man-o-lo) that she mentioned, and she mentioed him at the top of the show.

On the GMTV appearance she said that he would be appearing!  Roll Eyes

Guess it's just a case of people's schedules changing - that's the kind of business it is. Look at all the charity line-ups where they always say 'subject to availability' and it's never the same on the night!
