I believe from reading this forum it is safe to say that EP crosses the generation lines very well!

I was just looking through my little CD holder that I have on the counter of my most played discs and I have EP (3 of them), Selena, Styx, Iron Horse (a local rock band), Reba, SuBo, Heart, ABBA, Shout to the Lord, Guns & Roses, Van Halen, and Martina McBride. I'm either confused or very diverse in my tastes.  Wink

Diverse Deb, definitely diverse! As are most of us on here - I've always thought it must be boring to only like one music style, especially as so many overlap slightly anyway. Whilst I listen to Howard and EP the most I have so many other artists that I enjoy from Maria Callas to Bucks Fizz!

A guy I used to work with only ever listened to one group and never put anything else on, even back then (this was over 20 years ago) I thought his view extremely narrow!

Agree with you Birdie, Elaine easily crosses the generations - she has a sassy, current look about her.  And her voice is exceptional appealing to many.

Deb, am diverse like you.  I love classical music, opera, musical theater, and a variety of individual artists like Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, SuBo, Yo-Yo Ma, the Celtic Women, etc.  Even attended the 2010 American Idol Concert tour last week and enjoyed it.

But, my favorite composer is my husband's uncle, Robert Ward, who wrote mostly opera and won a Pulitzer for "The Crucible."  He's 92 and still composing.  The Dayton Philharmonic featured his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in 2009.  Will see him in September.

I like opera, but I prefer men's opera voices to women. Pavarotti has to be my favorite and Bocelli is running a close second. Dame Kiri has a lovely voice, but I much preferred EP's version of The Heart is Slow to Learn. I like Marilyn Mulvey as well. She did some Verdi that I liked.

Pat, did you see the PBS special on the Celtic Man last week? Oh, my some of those guys have fabulous voices. I could listen to them all day. Their harmonies are beautiful.

I'm also partial to a bit of Opera!

Dame Joan Sutherland is easily the greatest female Opera singer that has ever graced the earth. Her voice is simply glorious.

As for fellas, my favourite is Mario Lanza -closely followed by Pavarotti, who based himself on Lanza. Benjamino Gigli is a rather 'old-schooler,' but is brilliant. His 'Torna A Surriento' is amazing, especially when on an open tour-train of Sorrento!!

Like some other forum members, I like many different genres of music -classical, folk, country/western, rock, jazz, Broadway musicals, R/B, sacred, and music of other countries with different harmonic scales, etc.  I feel lucky that we had all kinds of music growing up in our home.  My oldest brother became a high school band director.  My dream would be to be a musician of some kind.  Problem is, no talent!!!!!!!!!  However, I'm grateful for the gift of appreciation of music!  It keeps me (somewhat) sane and makes up for a lot of the stress of regular everyday life.

Operaphantom - I agree that Dame Joan Sutherland is IT as far as a perfect female operatic voice!  Whatever I am doing, when she sings certain songs I am playing, I have to stop, sit still and pay 100% attention to it.  Sometimes her voice makes me cry.  How could anyone have that voice and still be mortal?  On interviews, she is actually very humble and warm.  She is retired now.  Wow!  Thank God for that voice for us to enjoy.  So, now I know why you call yourself Operaphantom with your love of opera and Dame Joan Sutherland.  Good on you!

I enjoy light classical music.  In fact many years ago at age 16. with friends, we walked 8 miles (both there and back) in deep snow, to a concert of Handels Messiah one Easter. Grin

As far as popular music is concerned I do like all the 'golden oldies'  Jo Stafford, Margaret Whiting, Julie London, Doris Day,
Natm King Cole, Johnny Mathis to name but a few.

I hear that, Melville B.  I love those oldies too.  My son says he can't do Christmas without listening to Johnny Mathis because I marked him at an early age!  I love Handels Messiah at Christmas too.  I rarely miss that opportunity!
