So we have the favourite male singer thread, and I thought we could have a female one as well! Smiley

I guess if most of you are like me,Elaine has a very special place as your most beloved favourite performer, but I'm sure that further down the list there are a few more ladies you admire! It's allowed to mention more than one Wink

I'll go first: One of my all time personal favourite singers is Aretha Franklin, for her warm, sweet, soulful voice and fantastic out of this world talent, then I also love Agnetha Fältskog, she has an angelic voice and a very sincere and natural way of performing a song, and with a personality to match...I also love the voices of Dinah Washington and Julie Covington.
In musical theatre there's only Elaine for me,I generally don't think there are too many special female voices/performers in that genre, not to my liking anyway....But I do love Diane Langton's sweet voice and her way of making characters fun and warm and lovable! Smiley

My favourite female singer is of course Elaine Paige.

I also like the voices of Anna-Maria Kaufmann, Angelika Milster and Bette Midler.

But none of them comes close to Elaine!!

I'd pay money to hear Elaine singing the telephone directory.

Elaine Paige is the very best!!

Dame Gracie Fields is my ultimate top favourite...I could spend hours writing about her on here, so will save you all that!

Another favourite, after EP of course, is Vera Lynn. Fantastic to see she's back in the charts, just a shame all the tracks are re-releases!

Other than that, I don't think there is anyone else who I'm 'fanatical' about that's female. I do enjoy many other female singers, and have thousands of CDs and LPs, but none really compare to Gracie, Vera and EP!!

A singer/actress/performer better than ELAINE? The very words catch in my throat and choke me!!! She's seen off all her musical theatre contemporaries and the younger generation pose no threat at all. Only Kerry Ellis has a power that reminds me of our lady but without new work being written, she will be lucky to get anywhere near the level of Elaine. Untouchable!

Have to say I agree Harold, Kerry Ellis was great at Hyde Park though and I really hope she gets some good material in the future. However, there is only one Elaine Paige and I can't see anyone being better in my lifetime!

Yes a really great performance from Kerry Ellis at the Hyde Park concert - sounded fab on the radio anyway!  If they revive Chess then she would be my choice for Florence.  She totally wiped the floor with Idina Menzel at the Royal Albert Hall concert and really should have been Florence, not Svetlana.  As much as I love 'Someone Else's Story', one song from her just wasn't enough!

It's not that hard to wipe the floor with Idina Menzel! -I just don't rate her at all!!  Kerry was fantastic in the Chess concert, and I love her 'Wicked in Rock.'

You didn't happen to record the show tonight did you, Miss Desmond? DESPERATELY seeking 'One Of Us'

Yes I did record it.  I did it off the tv onto my dvd recorder so I'll have to go through the whole thing and find the right bit.  Will gladly send you 'One Of Us' if nobody else beats me to it!  Thanks for the Chess segment - saves me editing everything!  Cool

It's true - it's so lovely to 'meet' so many other Elaine fans and to know that you all understand my feelings. There simply isn't any other female performer I'd travel all over the country for - willingly out to Australia etc if only the bank manager saw it in the same light!
